The £800,000 Novi Sad Friendship Bridge in Norwich has been opened by the Yugoslav ambassador. An opening swing footbridge with a 34m long cable stayed steel deck, the new 85t structure is named in recognition of the twinning ties between Novi Sad in Yugoslavia and Norwich, and provides a pedestrian and cycle link across the River Wensum in east Norwich.

May Gurney Construction was the main contractor, and the design team was led by Norfolk County Council's planning and transportation department, with Alfred Yee as architect, Buro Happold as superstructure designer and Mott MacDonald as mechanical and electrical engineer.
