Youth drive pins hopes on Girl Guides badge

News

GIRL GUIDES are to be the latest targets of efforts to get more women to work in construction.

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is working on plans to develop an activity badge know as a 'Go for It!' to stimulate girls' interest in construction.

CITB representatives were expected to meet representatives of guides body Girlguiding UK this week to work out how to implement the plan.

The idea is for the CITB to design and produce information packs detailing different types of construction activity guides can do as part of their Go for It!

These can range from simple 10 minute tasks to site visits and will include questionnaires to foster interest in construction.

A CITB spokesman said it was targeting Girlguiding UK because of the size of its membership. There are 620,000 girl guides in Britain and another 100,000 adult volunteers, many of them women.

It is hoped that the new Go for It's will come into action next year, coinciding with a wider CITB campaign aimed at women.
