Yorkshire praises partnering success

Yorkshire Water says its innovative partnering approach is the main reason why it is considered to be one of the UKs most efficient water companies.

'Our success stems from our commercial strategy. Our partners' incentives are aligned with our commercial objectives, ' says Yorkshire's capital resources manager Mike Hutson.

'What we do differently is that we set programme level targets from day one.'

During AMP 3 the company used AMP 2 scheme costs and subtracted an efficiency factor to set a target cost for a similar scheme in AMP 3.

'It allowed us to set target costs before any design had been done, which is quite unique, ' says Hutson.

Savings made against this target cost are shared between partners and the approach has been so successful that the company is taking the same consultants and contractors through to AMP 4.
