As the chair of the UK Roads Board's project management group for the introduction of the TTS Surveys being renamed SCANNER surveys, I was very pleased to read your news story (NCE 30 Sept, page 15). May I clarify the final point? The UK Roads Board intends that SCANNER surveys should be used on B and C roads from April 2005, based on results from the initial research.

Further research is aimed at developing SCANNER for use on all local roads, including unclassified roads, from April 2007.
