Wrekin wins Midlands football cup

WREKIN CONSTRUCTION is the new holder of Midlands Association's Millennium Cup, after edging out Birse Rail in the final of the graduates and students fivea-side football competition.

On a damp afternoon in the shadow of Spaghetti Junction, 10 teams turned up to compete in the second Babtie sponsored Millennium Cup. After moving pitch to avoid wayward balls disrupting the qualifiers for the England Fishing Team's upcoming European match in the adjacent Salford Park lake, the teams overcame initial confusion to deliver some good football.

In a close run final, Wrekin Construction came out 2-1 winners and go on to the national finals.
