Wrekin retains football trophy

WREKIN Construction has confirmed its domination of UK construction - in five-a-side football at least - by retaining the Babtie Millennium Cup.

Wrekin, already holder of the national five-a-side graduates and students crown after victory in Cardiff last year, defeated Amec last week at Birmingham Powerleague to hold on to the Midlands association title.

A day of fierce competition saw 12 teams whittled down to two - teams from Colas and Maunsell both went out 1-0 in the semi-finals - before Wrekin comfortably saw off Amec 3-1 in the final. Wrekin will defend its national crown at Crystal Place National Sports Centre on 6 April.
