These stunning images of a 24km mega-crossing designed for southern China have just been released.
A joint venture of Danish firms Cowi and Dissing & Weitling has been chosen to design the Shen-Zhong Link.
The 36bn yuan (£3.9bn) project will connect Shenzhen and Zhongshan via two bridges, two artificial islands and an eight-lane immersed tunnel.
Dissing & Weitling architect Poul Ove Jensen said: “The design is a synthesis of the requirements and constraints of the Pearl River’s estuary where shallow and calm water has been a great inspiration calling for elegance and harmony.
“The island is designed to minimise the blocking effect in the water, the shape similar to a classic Chinese kite and combined with the bridges, the entire link can visualise a kite with tail elegantly landing on the water.”
