Slope failure destroys Turkish ski jump

Two ski ramps at the Türk Telekom Ski Jumping Towers in the eastern province of Erzurum in Turkey were destroyed in a landslide on earlier this week.

The ski centre, located on the Kiremitlik Hill at the base of Palandöken Mountain, was completed in 2010 by Sarıdağlar Construction for the 2011 Winter Universiade.

The 300,000m2 site was evacuated when the progressive failures were first observed over the weekend following a period of heavy rainfall.

The failure mechanism and cost of repairs are yet to be determined.
