Ramboll UK environment team doubles with acquisition of US environmental consultant Environ

Danish consultancy giant Ramboll’s UK environment operation is set to to more than double to 380 following the firm’s acquisition today of US-based environmental consultant Environ.

The acquisition of 1,500-strong Environ moves Ramboll into the top 10 environmental consultancies globally with 2,700 experts working within environment, health and water worldwide and a total staff close to 12,500 employees working in 35 countries.

The combined revenue of Ramboll and Environ exceeds £1bn, of which 34% will be generated outside the Nordics. Measured on revenue the US will become the firm’s fourth biggest geography after Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

In the UK, Ramboll managing director Steve Canadine said that Environ was a “great fit”.

“Working together we will be able to offer a much broader suite of services to clients and enjoy far greater presence within the UK environmental market. Their team of just under 200 people expands our UK team to 380 and also increases our UK network to 16 offices,” he said. Ramboll’s presence in the UK was previously largely built on the back of its acquisition of structures specialist Gifford.

Environ UK managing principal Matt Davies agreed: “What Ramboll brings is a greater breadth and depth of skill and experience, a larger footprint and excellent access into a number of strategic sectors for us – particularly the energy and oil and gas sectors – helping us to better support our clients as they expand.”

Environ is a leading environmental and health sciences consultancy, primarily working with private sector clients. It has been operating in the UK for nearly 25 years. Services include sustainability including climate change and energy management, impact assessment and planning, air quality management, site assessment and remediation, environmental compliance and management, merger and acquisition due diligence, health and safety, product safety and stewardship, and water and wastewater management.
