Oman to get £78M wind farm

Plans have been announced for a 50MW wind farm in Oman.

Abu Dhabi renewables firm Masdar signed an agreement with local firm Rural Areas Electricity Company for the £78M scheme.

The 25 turbine project is expected to generate enough electricity to power 16,000 homes.

Construction is due to begin towards the end of next year.

Masdar chairman Ahmed Al Jaber said: “The region is rapidly adopting renewable energy as a viable solution to meet growing electricity demands and to address long-term resource security.

“The Oman wind project is a prime example of how clean energy can deliver reliable power supplies and improve energy security, while also supporting a transition to a low-carbon future.”
