Mott MacDonald appointed to Hong Kong metro job

The Samsung-Hsin Chong contractor joint venture (SHJV) has appointed consultant Mott MacDonald as its designer for the metro operator MTR Corporation’s Shatin to Central Link (SCL) contract 1109 in Hong Kong.

The HK$4.6bn (£365M) contract is the first of the major civil works contracts on SCL and comprises the construction of two new underground stations in the densely-populated Kowloon City area of Central Kowloon.

The project also includes 1.6km of twin-bored tunnel. Elements include temporary works design for earth lateral support at the station boxes, tunnel boring machinework and various underpinning works in the East Kowloon Corridor.

“We’re proud to be assisting Samsung, as the lead party in the JV, on its first successful venture into the highly-competitive Hong Kong construction market,” said Mott MacDonald project director Mark Swales.

Construction has commenced and the project will open to the public in 2018.
