Landslide at Kundha construction site kills three

Contractors working on the Kundha Ultimate Stage Hydro Electric Project in Kattukuppai in India have confirmed that a landslide at the site has killed three workers.

The incident occurred when a slope above the construction site on a tunnel portal structure for the 500MW hydro electric project failed.

Client for the project Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation has said that the area had suffered from heavy rain in the days before the landslide and that the local ground conditions are known to become unstable in such conditions.

Work on the Kundha scheme started in March and is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
