Jacobs/Aurecon wins Australia M5 design job

New M5, Sydney

Consulting giants Jacobs and Aurecon are to carry out engineering design for the New M5 Project in Sydney, Australia.

WestConnex is a critical part of the New South Wales government’s integrated transport plans. The project aims to significantly reduce the congestion impacting hundreds of thousands of NSW road users every day.

The New M5 motorway is the largest section of the WestConnex project tendered to date and is being delivered by the CPB Contractors Dragados Samsung joint venture.

The New M5 is expected to double the capacity of the heavily congested M5 East motorway corridor, providing new 9km long twin tunnels between Kingsgrove and St Peters.

WestConnex is the largest road project in Australia, linking Sydney’s west and south-west with the city and airport in a 33km continuous motorway that takes thousands of trucks and cars off the surface and puts them in underground tunnels so that above ground space can be improved.

To assist with the coordination and integration of design with other parties, three dimensional design and building information modelling systems are being used to design and document elements of the project.
