Geobrugg puts new rockfall protection concept through live testing

Testing of Geobrugg’s new rock fall canopy has been successfully proven by a live test that was viewed in 25 countries around the world.

The test, carried out at Geobrugg’s site in Walenstadt, Switzerland, involved dropping a 1.6t block from a 32m height with a force of 500kJ onto a new design of rockfall protection netting.

The new canopy approach to rockfall protection is designed to be self-cleaning. The concrete testing block was successfully caught by the net, decelerated and then catapulted out of the net over the protected objects - two cars – and followed the expected trajectory.
