Fugro wins geotechnical contract for US offshore wind farm

Offshore wind farm 2by3 Credits to Chris Laurens

Fugro has won the site investigation contract for an offshore wind farm development located off the US east coast.

The contract, awarded by developer Vineyard Wind, will involve a geotechnical site investigation at the offshore Massachusetts site.

Fugro’s drilling vessel, M/V Fugro Synergy, will be used to perform the study, which will include numerous seabed cone penetration tests (CPTs) and exploration boreholes, along with sampling and downhole CPTs.

Following the fieldwork, a programme of laboratory testing and reporting will be undertaken.

The site investigation will be used to verify geologic ground models that Vineyard Wind is developing based on previous geophysical data collected from the 67,500ha lease area.

The investigation is planned to start before the end of the month and take around two to three weeks to complete.
