Belo Horizonte collapse probe to report in August

An investigation into the causes of the flyover collapse in Belo Horizonte last week should be completed by early August, the contractor has said.

Local firm Cowan was working on the road bridge that fell on to the highway below last Thursday, killing at least two people.

It said in a statement that has been translated from its website: “An investigation team was hired by Cowan to assess the causes of the accident and the results should come out in 30 days.”

The fallen flyover will be demolished, Cowan added.

It also insisted all procedures and materials had passed tests and met required standards.

Cowan has been working for more than 50 years in the construction industry.
