Balfour Beatty Asia JV wins £120M Hong Kong contract

Balfour Beatty today announced that its South East Asia joint venture Gammon Construction has been awarded a HK$1.5bn (£120M) contract by Hysan Development Company Limited (Hysan) for the redevelopment of the Hennessy Centre in the Causeway Bay district of Hong Kong.

Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Hysan and to be involved with this landmark project. Gammon’s advanced technological standards and expertise in building construction are key factors in the contract award.”

The development includes a 36-storey mixed retail and office space with a four-level car park and retail basement and is due to be completed in 2011.

The Hennessy Centre redevelopment is the first Hong Kong building project that has achieved pre-certification of the highest Platinum level under the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and will set an example as an environmentally-friendly building in the community.
