Australia's Victoria government in UK workers plea

Australia’s critical engineering shortage has driven the state government of Victoria to hold a seminar in Manchester to attract engineers to the country.

Almost 100 people attended last month’s seminar to hear about Victoria’s lifestyle; the opportunities in engineering and information on migration. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Halo Financial and Anglo Pacific Removals were also there to discuss relocation issues.

Engineering skills are in demand in Victoria, in all sectors and fields of industry including government, infrastructure and utilities, advanced engineering and aerospace.

Engineers are also being sought for major infrastructure projects.

Victoria has weathered the economic downturn well and continuing investment in growth industries such as engineering has enabled the creation of 115,800 jobs in Victoria in the last financial year – 25,000 more than any other Australian state, with several major projects imminent.
