Atkins wins second Qatari roads framework agreement

A second large roads framework contract in Qatar has been awarded to another UK consultant, Atkins, days after the first went to Hyder, for road and drainage works on the capital’s new-build road projects.

Ashghal, the Public Works Authority of Qatar, awarded the five-year, £65M contract which covers a range of engineering design and supervision services as required in Doha.

The work is a key part of Qatar’s master plan and vision for 2030 and provides essential infrastructure in the run-up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Atkins plans to utilise a team mainly from the Middle East, but will draw support from the UK and North America as needed. Atkins has had an office in Doha since 2002 and is currently working on other highways projects across Qatar, including the concept design of the Khalifa, Rayyan and Al Bustan roads.
