Arcadis to tackle Gothenburg flood problems

Arcadis is to carry out a feasibility study with Swedish company Sweco for two flood barriers in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.

The city is often plagued by flood events, involving either the sea, or the river Göta.

The study is examining installing two flood barriers: one to be positioned on the sea-side, the other upstream at a fork in the river Göta.

The work should be completed by the end of this year.

Arcadis has recently worked on flood defences in New Orleans, USA, and in Nieuwpoort, Belgium.

“There is growing international interest in our water management know-how, ” said Arcadis director Gert Kroon. “We are experiencing an increase in the effects of climate change.”
