Work starts to convert old A3 into cycle path

Contractor Balfour Beatty has this week begun work converting the original A3 near Hindhead in Surrey into a cycle path following the opening of the Hindhead tunnel.

The 1.9km Hindhead tunnel opened last month, part of a 6.4km bypass of the Surrey village of Hindhead.

Engineers will now start to convert the old A3 into a cycle path through the Devil’s Punchbowl, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The new cycle path is due to open by early next year.
