Work experience gives MBAs value

While I agree that MBAs can be very useful - I have one and regularly use the knowledge gained - I have a word of advice for the Association of Municipal Engineers (which is considering including MBAs in its qualification process - NCE 6 July).

The skills one gains with an MBA are of limited value unless one already has work experience. The MBA graduate without work experience is more likely to be seen as 'another management school clone'. A less intense qualification initially based upon human resource management, followed by a course of study leading to an MBA would be of most benefit.
