Work begins on the Leeds Arena

Work has started at the city centre site where the £55M Leeds Area will be built, according to the local council.

BAM, preferred contractor for the the 13,500 capacity venue, has begun enabling works in Clay Pit Lane, Leeds which once complete will allow construction of the venue to begin. Arena construction is due to begin in early 2011.

The Arena is hoped to add £25.5M a year to the city’s economy and create around 450 construction jobs, with potentially 90 apprenticeships.

Leeds City Council believe the Arena will bring an additional 1M visitors to the city.
