Women make best engineers, says Fleming

ICE PRESIDENT Professor George Fleming last week insisted that women were the future leaders of the profession.

Addressing the ICE annual dinner, Fleming said that women would make better leaders of the civil engineering profession than men.

Fleming told NCE: 'From my 30 year teaching experience and all my work with students, I have seen that women are harder working and take the lead role much more readily than men.'

But he warned against positive discrimination and added: 'Women have to draw on their own icons. The ICE can start the process but it is down to women themselves to go out and promote the profession to other women.'
