Wolverhampton tram upgrade begins next month

A £4.5M upgrade of the Midland Metro tram tracks in the centre of Wolverhampton will start next month.

The work, which is scheduled to begin on 6 September and take around 12 weeks to complete, involves replacing tracks in Bilston Road.

Paul Griffiths, Centro’s metro programme director, said: “The tracks are now 15-years-old and in places only have a few months of life left in them.”

The metro line between Priestfield and St George’s will be closed after the last tram on Friday September 5 to allow the works to start.
