Winning Westway

Maunsell is back on the Westway in London 28 years after the structure, which it designed, was opened. Since the flyover's completion, its appearance has deteriorated to such an extent that it is now emblematic of an area seen as threatening and depressing.

The key aim of the new project, which is expected to start in the next 12 months, is to revitalise the pathways under the flyover and to encourage public use of these spaces through the effective and creative use of colour, light, sound monitoring and sculpture.

Maunsell has provided financial support as well as technical and graphic design services to develop architectural concept schemes for painted concrete surfaces and lighting.
