Winning combination

Directional drill manufacturer Steve Vick International has developed a pitmole directional drilling attachment for the JCB 8015 mini excavator.

The mini excavator can be used to unload the drill rig from the transport vehicle and manoeuvre it on site.

After excavating the launch and receive pits, the JCB positions the drill rig into the launch pit and the powers it through its auxillary hydraulic systems.

It is most suited to installing pipes up to 180mm over distances of 20-50m.

A two-man team is required to operate the system - one to drive the JCB and control the drill rig, the other to steer the pilot bore using the system's Rotasteer guidance and detection unit.
