A spectacular new 'butterfly wing' footbridge has been proposed for Bristol Harbour. Spanning 75m between the north and south harbour, the steel deck comprises two sections which taper towards the ends of the bridge. The design mimics the wings of a butterfly, with a hinge allowing the 'wings' to close about a central pier.
