Wind tunnel testing contracts awarded for new Forth crossing

Wind tunnel testing contracts for the new Forth Crossing have been awarded to Italian university Politecnico di Milano.

Three contracts amounting to £447000 were awarded this week by Transport Scotland to the mechanics department at the Politecnico di Milano.

The work will include:

 - wind tunnel studies of a scale model of the entire cable-stayed bridge structure to confirm the aerolastic stability of the  bridge, during and after construction

 - wind tunnel studies of a bridge deck section model mounted on end springs to represent the dynamic properties.

 - wind tunnel studies of a fixed bridge deck section model at different skew angles with various different wind shield configurations
