ESRI (UK) www. esriuk. com ESRI (UK) part of the global ESRI network, is a technical authority on GIS geographical information systems and claims to have the largest pool of GIS expertise in the UK.

The company provides solutions, technology and services including off the shelf applications built on the ArcGIS software suite and an extensive range of consulting and training services.

Its offerings meet a range of business needs in different markets including business, local and central government, public safety, utilities and telecommunications, as well as catering for system integrators and application developers through the ESRI developer network.

For civil engineering purposes in particular its mapping and geographic database systems allow fl xible data capture and management, and display and dissemination later.

Stand J14 European Land Solutions (ELS) www. landmine-solutions. com ELS provides munitions related services worldwide. Projects vary from landmine clearance for the United Nations in Iraq to survey and ordnance destruction work for Shell in Russia. Operations also include the disposal of terrorist devices, ammunition stockpile destruction, as well as professional advice and training.

Sister company ELS Underwater Services provides a full range of diving services including survey, maintenance, salvage, and explosive ordnance disposal. The company has carried out local authority underwater bridge surveys in the UK, diving operations to clear unexploded ordnance in the Gulf, and warship propeller polishing for the Royal Navy.

Stand K30 Fellows International www. fellowsint. com FIL is an unexploded bomb and mine location and remediation specialist with fi ve decades of handson experience on land and subsea operations worldwide. The company has in-house capability to conduct both non-intrusive or borehole surveys, location and remediation operations for ferrous and non-ferrous weapons and is one of Britain's premier explosive ordnance disposal operators.

Stand H31 Formpave www. formpave. co. uk Formpave, which manufactures both standard and specialist concrete block pavers and permeable paving solutions, is hosting an open workshop on sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) and pollution control at its stand. It will be led by Dr Stephen Coupe, a world renowned expert in the fi eld. Visitors can come along for in-depth technical discussion and advice relating to the application and downstream benefits of SUDS technology in urban landscaping projects.

Formpave will also showcase its fl gship patented Stormwater Source Control System and Aquafl w range of permeable paving.

The new 60mm Aquafl ow block will also be on show, available in the standard Aquafl ow colours and fi nishes, providing a permeable paving solution for domestic use. Other products on show at Civils 2006 will include the Chartres range, Clifton range and Formpave Granites range. Information on these and other products will be available on the stand.

Stand A21 Geofabrics www. geofabrics. com Geofabrics will show selections from geosynthetic materials manufactured in the UK for use in railways, highways, coastal engineering, landfi ll and general construction projects. Of particular interest are geocomposites where multiple layers of differing geosynthetics are bonded together in widths up to 6m to produce a material combining all the properties required for the intended application. For example, reinforcement, drainage and separation in one product to be used in embankment construction.

The company offers a bespoke service analysing the application needed to determine the performance properties required of the geocomposite. This in turn is designed to match those properties.

The highest quality standards are maintained throughout and regularly inspected by third parties.

Stand F40 Geofirma Soils Engineering www. geofi rma. co. uk Geofi ma Soils Engineering is a contractor in the UK offering an integrated design and construction service for soil stabilisation with lime, cement or both. Stabilisation is a modern and effi cient process for recycling soils and other construction materials for building foundations and vehicular paving.

Geofi rma has more than 80 items of specialist equipment, making it the operator of one of the largest fl eets of soil stabilisation and earthmoving plant in the UK. At least 5M. m 3 of soil has been stabilised by Geofi rma on more than 350 civil engineering and building projects over the past nine years.

As well as design and optimisation of earthworks using computer aided techniques, the fi m does site investigations and soil testing in a UKAS accredited laboratory for projects.

Stand D2 Geomatrix Earth Science www. geomatrix. co. uk Geomatrix will demonstrate its geophysical exploration instrumentation for near surface investigations.

Product ranges cover a variety of techniques including seismic methods for determining in-situ soil shear strength and depth to bedrock; ground probing radar for shallow underground mapping including voids, road structures, culverts, soil stratigraphy and resistivity and conductivity mapping systems, both electrical and magnetic suitable for general site investigation and pollution monitoring.

Stand H27 Gifford www. gifford. uk. com Gifford is an award winning, independent consultancy with a diverse range of skills and substantial experience. It says it is a truly inter-disciplinary company sharing knowledge and working together from the ground up. It offers individual expertise or complementary services across areas including building services engineering, civil and structural engineering, environment and resource management and masterplanning, regeneration and transport planning.

On each day of Civils 2006 Gifford directors, engineers and other specialists will be available on the stand to discuss the company's skills, current projects and potential opportunities. Human resources advisers will also be on hand throughout the exhibition to talk with potential recruits.

Stand L8 Go Contaminated Land Solutions www. gosolve. co. uk Go is a consultancy advising on contaminated or potentially contaminated sites. It works in partnership with the client and project team to manage risk and achieve a costeffective site specific solution.

The company can take a whole project view, isolate the vital issues and approach these in such a way as to safeguard the client's investment and maximise its value.

The fi rst step is usually a desktop study to build up and design an appropriate site investigation. If required, the fi rm will then develop a remediation strategy and monitor its implementation. Finally it will complete a verifi ation report to confi rm the suitability of the site for the proposed use.

Stand M40 H2OX (Oxford Hydrotechnics) www. h2ox. net Oxford Hydrotechnics is now rebranding itself as H2OX to reflect the image of an innovative, modern and evolving company specialising in advanced resin injection and grouting techniques. Its processes seal leaks through existing structures and control groundwater fl ows, even major incursions that sometimes occur in tunnels and mines. Services supplied by the company include soil and rock stabilisation, ground anchoring, void fi ling and crack injection. It does structural reinforcing and can help in disaster recovery.

Stand C34 Ischebeck Titan www. ischebeck-titan. co. uk Ischebeck Titan's stand will feature the company's range of ground engineering solutions together with a low maintenance, long life sound barrier fence system for highways, rail, airport and other infrastructure applications.

The company says its ground engineering products have been used extensively in earth retention, slope stabilisation, temporary and permanent works, infrastructure improvement and micropiling projects across the world.

Displays at Civils 2006 will feature product samples with graphics showing soil nail, tie-back anchor, injection pile and rock bolt applications for self drilling and solid bar situations throughout the civil engineering and construction markets.

Ischebeck sales engineers will be available throughout the exhibition to answer any queries on products and schemes.

Stand H6 Lankelma www. lankelma. co. uk Information on specialist in situ testing, instrumentation and high quality sampling techniques will be available at the Lankelma stand along with information on available plant and equipment for onshore, marine, rail and bespoke solutions. Lankelma also carries out installation of geotechnical instrumentation.

The company uses hydraulic pushing technology which ensures high quality, repeatable tests with minimal soil disturbance. Results are instantaneous and the electronic data transfer ensures rapid reporting.

There will be a number of Lankelma engineers on the stand throughout the exhibition for questions and to provide further information and advice on general issues or specic works. Visitors will also be able to watch a continuous presentation on services and technologies offered by Lankelma.

Stand G6 Leica Geosystems www. leica-geosystems. com The Leica name is associated not just with cameras but also advanced positioning solutions for the civil engineering, surveying and construction industries. Products include Leica GPS, total station and monitoring solutions.

There are 1D, 2D and 3D machine automation systems for excavators, graders, dozers and paving machines, as well as a broad basket of laser rotators, levels, cable locators and pipe lasers.

Also on show will be the Leica HDS 3D laser scanner for highdenition surveying.

Stand F14 Met Surveys www. metsurveys. com This UK consultancy for measured land and building surveying as well as geophysical investigation is employed throughout the UK and Europe.

Stand D37 MGFwww. mgf. ltd. uk At its quarter century this year MGF says it continues to push for growth in its sector of bespoke excavation support equipment as well as other areas of safety equipment, pipe stoppers and training where it has diversied.

An engineering department has a mix of structural, civil and mechanical engineers currently producing more than 200 designs a month with more and more bespoke solutions. MGF has 20 years' experience manufacturing its own products and as a result can blend standard products with bespoke requirements. Purpose built manufacturing workshops supply the requirements.

New products emerging from this knowledge of the market include micro-manhole boxes, edge protection systems and the MGF 'super tank brace', the last billed as the strongest modular brace in the industry. They can bee seen and discussed at the company's stand.

Stand H3 Milbury Systems www. milbury. com Concrete specialist Milbury Systems will provide information on its range of prestressed concrete panels which are ideal for soil retention, below ground structures, security walls and cladding. Milbury will also demonstrate Karapace, its versatile precast concrete retaining system which was launched at last year's Civils event. The rm is an expert in design, manufacture and installation of concrete structures for a variety of applications, and can supply the majority of its own precast concrete requirements from its production plant in Lydney, Gloucester.

Stand H38 Mott MacDonald www. mottmac. com Major consultant Mott MacDonald has just gone through the 10,000 staff barrier and passed the US$1bn turnover mark for worldwide operations. It sees Civils 2006 as an ideal opportunity to raise prole and network with clients and potential partners. It will also be showcasing innovation where in the eld of geotechnics, advances range from introducing an innovative piling design at T5 to taking the lead in novel approaches to help stabilise railway embankments.

Mott MacDonald experts are also advocating a radical heating and cooling system that can be built into tunnels or the foundations of new buildings to provide efcient and sustainable airconditioning.

Stand E5 Naue Geosynthetics www. naue. com Naue Geosynthetics, a geosynthetics manufacturer of products for construction applications such as ration, drainage, protection, separation, reinforcement, sealing and erosion control, has considerable experience in supplying premium products for construction and assisting engineers in solving design problems. Product ranges include GCL Bento x, Secutex geotextiles, membranes Carbofol, geocomposite Secudrän, Secugrid geogrids.

Stand G36 Pennine Vibropiling www. pennine-group. com Pennine is a pioneering ground engineering and piling company.

Starting with a team of four in 1989, the company now employs a staff of 150 specialising in designing unique equipment and engineering solutions for developing difcult ground. As well as its Bacup headquarters, Pennine - which was recently acquired by construction giant Balfour Beatty - also has of ces at Milton Keynes, Gloucester, and Stirling in Scotland. New innovations include the Penpile auger displacement system which does not involve spoil removal and is ideal for browneld or contaminated sites. Stand G18 Radiodetection www. radiodetection. com Utilities worldwide rely on Radiodetection cable avoidance tools (CATs) to prevent accidental damage to underground services when excavating. Trenchless products enable pipe laying companies to direct the drill and so speed up installation of utilities. Radiodetection's cable test products quickly locate problems such as breaks or deteriorating insulation. Down-hole inspection products from Radiodetection use the latest digital CCTV in dif cult environments to enable water companies to perform inspection and maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing sewer and other pipe cables.

Stand G21 Ritchies www. edmund-nuttall. co. uk/ ritchies Ritchies, part of contractor Edmund Nuttall, is a leading UK geotechnical company offering an integrated design and construct service encompassing every aspect of geotechnical contracting.

At the stand, a range of capabilities will be introduced which are available via a network of regional centres. There will also be details on a selection of applications including slope stabilisation, ground improvement, foundations and tunnel refurbishment with staff available to talk about them in detail.

Stand G20 Roger Bullivant www. roger-bullivant. co. uk Roger Bullivant (RBL) is one of the largest of the UK foundation engineering companies with an annual turnover in excess of £110M. Bullivant is now celebrating its 35th anniversary in the civil and structural engineering business and today today the RBL Group employs more than 1,000 people. The company's headquarters are in Burton-on-Trent and supported by a nationwide network of specialist centres. There are also manufacturing facilities at Bridgewater in Somerset and in the north east at East Boldon.

The company delivers engineered solutions in piling, ground improvement, house foundations, special precast concrete products, mini-piling, underpinning, conservatory and extension bases.

Stand K22 Salix www. salixrw. co. uk Salix specialises in river works, wetlands, reedbeds, lakes, canal works, dredging, mitigation works, soil erosion control on slopes, embankments, spillways, SUDS and drainage channels. It is the UK distributor for North American Green, that it claims is the world's leading erosion control geotextile product range.

Stand N34 Peter Brett Associates (PBA) www. pba. co. uk PBA is an independent, international engineering, environmental and transport consultant. At the exhibition, it will highlight a selection of projects and demonstrate its expertise in regeneration and social, economic and environmental sustainability.

The centrepiece of the PBA stand will be a live creations of artworks by Jon Hicks, who was recently designated International Man of Artistry. He will make his canvasses during the show to create an interpretation of the consultant's work and its effects on the evolving nature of the world.

Recent examples of the rm's projects include highway and utility infrastructure advice to the NHS and English Partnerships for Park Prewett in Basingstoke, and infrastructure and development advice for the A33 and Greenpark in Reading.

Stand M10 Stats www. stats. co. uk Stats, an independent consultancy practice for engineering, materials and environmental work will be well represented at Civils 2006 with senior staff on hand to discuss the latest developments in geophysical surveying and data modelling as well as site investigation and assessment. The m also has expertise in geotechnical analysis and foundation engineering and does contaminated land risk assessment and remediation.

In the past year, Stats has successfully completed major projects in most sectors of civil engineering including road and rail transportation; NG's 1220mm gas pipeline routes; derelict and undermined land reclamation; slope engineering; landll engineering; land raising and ood defence; river and estuary crossings; public and private sector building and associated infrastructure; retaining walls and deep basements; and the reuse of existing foundations.

Stand C5 Sub Surface Technologies www. sstech. co. uk Sub Surface is UK distributor for the American AB Chance helical piling system and the patented helical Pulldown micropile and is the only m providing helical systems for commercial and residential applications. The piles are used for a variety of purposes including foundation stabilisation and structural repair, underpinning of existing foundations, and new construction foundation pier installation. Sub Surface is also the manufacturer and sole UK distributor of the Hydraway highcapacity water drainage system for athletic elds, golf courses, airports, roadways, residences and agricultural applications.

Stand G26 Tam International Consultants http: //tam. uk. com/ Tam International claims over 25 years experience in the manufacturing and supply of specialist products to the construction and building industry. The company manufactures a broad spectrum of materials and systems including leak sealing and ground consolidation injection resins, waterproo ng coatings, epoxy resins for crack injection and mortars to concrete repair materials. Materials and systems are manufactured to international and local standards and are utilised by some the leading construction and building rms in the world.

Stand F30 Thurlow Countryside Management TCM www. t-c-m. co. uk/ Ecology and plant control consultant and contractor tcm will be explaining environmental and ecologically aware conservation solutions for the road, rail and construction industries at its stand.

TCM works with numerous companies at a national level, including housebuilders, construction companies and anyone involved with browneld regeneration.

The company has experience, practical know-how and a scientic understanding of weed management, herbicides and the environment it says for invasive weed management and ecology services.

A particular speciality is the eradication of Japanese Knotweed, an almost intractably dif lt invasive species that the Environment Agency has announced is its 'most wanted'. In situ treatment with its HIT system reduces the eradication timescale to one season from the normal three to ve years achieved with standard herbicidal treatment. The company has numerous other cost-effective, environmentally friendly options and is constantly looking for new techniques at its Cambridge research and development facility.

TCM was awarded a Proof of Concept grant by the East of England Development Agency to research further innovative, cost-effective and environmental-friendly Japanese Knotweed treatment regimes. It was also a runner up in the Browneld Brie ng Awards 2006 for best use of chemical systems.

Stand J35 Tensar International www. tensar-international. com Tensar International is a major international supplier for soil reinforcement and ground stabilisation solutions incorporating Tensar geogrids. The company is well known for its professional approach, offering technical advice and design support from their experienced team of engineers.

At Civils 2006, Tensar will be launching new Tensar UX geogrids into Europe, adding to its range of high strength uniaxial geogrids.

Also new for 2006 will be the Tensartech platform system, which allows clients to opt for a full design supply and install solution. In addition to this Tensar have now introduced Tensarsoil-2 an updated version of their bespoke software for the design of reinforced soil walls.

Stand A18 Thomson Ecology www. thomsonecology. com/ Thomson Ecology carries out ecological impact assessments, species surveys and offers general support for clients for meeting their legal obligations under wildlife and planning constraints. The rm's ecologists hold PTS Certicates and Protected Species Licences and the company has done major studies for highway and infrastructure development projects.

Services offered range from scoping studies and habitat surveys to post-project monitoring and research, designed and implemented protected species mitigation strategies and contributed to strategic and policy documents.

This year the company has launched a new handbook called Wildlife on Site, a guide for civil engineers and developers. Copies of the new book will be selling at the exhibition stand where staff will also be on hand to talk about the consultancy's range of services.

Thomson also conducts training workshops on the issues of conservation legislation as it affects developments, including protected species mitigation and translocation.

The next seminar takes place on 5 December and visitors to Civils 2006 will be offered a special discount.

Stand F33 Uretek UK www. uretek. co. uk Uretek will be explaining its geopolymer resin injection techniques for concrete slab lifting and stabilisation, which it says are a fast, cost-effective alternative to piling and underpinning when dealing with subsidence. The Uretek processes involve no excavations, cause minimum disruption, and generate no dust or mess. The processes are highly accurate and controllable, and have been used on more than 5,000 projects in the UK over the past 18 years, ranging from domestic homes to large industrial units, roads, docks and airport runways.
