Whitby - taking the easy route?

Letters

Vice president Mark Whitby's frustrations with the ICE (NCE 13 January) seem to stem from the inability to 'drive forward' through the executive committee 'initiatives to widen membership and lower the age graduates become members'. Frustrating no doubt; but couple these with his suggestion that examination fees should be scrapped - and one gets a distinct whiff of 'let's make things easier'.

Could it be that this has been detected by the committee with the realisation that any such tendency would run counter to one of the Institution's prime concerns - the status of its members? We should be glad that wiser and calmer heads are giving these matters long and careful scrutiny.

I don't know whether the Institution wants Mr. Whitby as President but I'm afraid I don't.
