Wednesday 24 March, London Paving the way out of rural poverty International Focus Group executive secretary Laurent Kyombo will discuss the importance of using locally sourced materials and practices when building or resurfacing rural roads around the world. Robert Petts of Intech-TRL Vietnam will also review research initiatives in South East Asia.

Thursday 25 March, Chilterns ICE Chilterns Annual Dinner Possibly the last ICE Chilterns annual dinner as proposed changes to regional boundaries will mean that it is merged with East Anglia to form the East of England region. ICE president Douglas Oakervee and Cross London Rail Links chief executive Norman Haste will speak at the event. Merit award presentations will also be made. This year's contenders include the A507 Arlesey bridge over the East Coast Main Line and microtunnelling for the Hoddesdon waste transfer project.

Thursday 25 March, Midlands Buxton sewage treatment works Brian Morris, Diana Miller and Richard Smith of Severn Trent Water will give a presentation on the design and project management of Buxton sewage works. Challenges faced on the project included co-ordinating work on a compact site and working around an operational sewage works.

He will share his ideas of integrating the built environment with nature to ensure a sustainable and economic future. He believes that cleaning up brownfield sites can be done by more natural means if adequate assessment is made of financial and health risks.
