London Underground is introducing a new £1bn smartcard ticketing system next summer which it is claimed will help police catch criminals. The card will have an embedded microchip that stores details about the user. Police will be able to track user's movements by following their data 'trail'.

UK housebuilder Wilson Bowden this week signed a £1bn contract to build a new town on the site of the former Ravenscraig steelworks near Motherwell, North Lanarkshire.
