Barrow Borough Council was acquitted of seven charges of manslaughter involving Legionnaires' Disease last week.

One of its employees, architect Gillian Beckingham, now faces charges at Preston Crown Court alone. The air conditioning at an arts centre run by the council in Cumbria caused seven deaths and 172 illnesses.

Network Rail directors face cuts in their bonuses after frequently failing to give train companies enough notice of engineering works.
