Railway Forum chairman Chris Green has launched an industry campaign for a 200mph London-Scotland line that could include 'bullet trains'. Green told a conference in Milan that the line could be an extension of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.

A pressure group has been formed to fight plans to build a 220km long high voltage power line through the Scottish Highlands. It argues that research has linked the proximity of power lines to childhood cancer. Scottish and Southern Energy needs to build the line to accommodate energy from proposed wind farms.
