Environment secretary Margaret Beckett has ruled out building any new nuclear power stations for the next 15 years at least.

Beckett's statement stands against the growing lobby for nuclear energy which claims that nuclear power will have to provide half of Britain's electricity needs by 2050 in order to met emission reduction targets.
