A separate department of transport in charge of roads, railways, Dublin's Luas light rail system and bus services has been called for in a report by the Institution of Engineers of Ireland. Transport policy in Ireland is currently split between several government departments.

Chairman of the Irish National Roads Authority, Liam Connellan, has resigned. He will continue as president of the Institution of Engineers.
