Over 70 people have died following an earthquake in Peru last week measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale. Rescuers fear that thousands of homeless survivors are now at risk of dying from cold as the savage Andean winter sets in.

Steve Bennett, a rocket enthusiast and director of Manchester-based aeronautics firm Starchaser Industries, is aiming to be the first amateur astronaut to pilot a private spaceship. He is competing for a £10M space exploration prize, to be awarded to the first amateur mission taking three adults 100km into space and returning them safely back to earth.
