Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions, Stephen Byers, was given a boost this week as the leader of the Rail Passenger Council called for him to keep his job.

A proposal for an enormous dredging area off the Sussex coast faces a marine conservationist and French fishing industry backlash. The scheme will be roughly half the size of Luxembourg, and opponents claim valuable marine life will be lost.
