Former environment minister, Michael Meacher has accused the government of suppressing a report on cancer risk from nuclear radiation. Two members of the committee examining radiation risks from internal emitters published an unofficial minority report suggesting risk from low level radiation could be 300 times higher than believed. The main report is published next month.

London mayor, Ken Livingstone has said that Chinese contractors will be serious contenders for the capital's £10bn Crossrail project.

The mayor explained he was impressed at how Chinese contractors completed Shanghai's underground system in three years. Construction is due to begin in 2006.
