What the papers say - THE INDEPENDENT

News stand

Virgin's Pendolino trains have the worst reliability record on the rail n etwork and their performance is deteriorating. The tilting trains operating on the West Coast Main Line are up to 20 times more likely to break down, with faults arising every 3,000km.

This compares with breakdowns every 80,000km experienced by pendolinos in Europe. The problem is being blamed on a lack of proper testing in British conditions.
