Many US rivers are under serious environmental threat according to a report by environmental campaign group, AmericanRivers. org. The group has identified over-abstraction to fuel runaway development, raw sewage discharge and construction, farming and mining discharges as the major causes.

An undersea metro tunnel could link Venice to its airport in a plan to be unveiled by the city this week. The £230M project would link the mainland north of the commercial city, Mestre, to the island via a single 8km track. Venice mayor Paolo Costa says the new line is needed to relieve the overstretched vaporetti water bus services and aid regeneration of the old city.
