British Nuclear Fuels' profits fell by £200M last year following a series of severe operational problems. The publicly owned business was forced to shut down some of its first generation Magnox power stations after technical faults were found which caused disruptions to its reprocessing operations at Sellafield.

Former Railtrack chairman Gerald Corbett may be forced out of his post as executive chairman of Woolworths after howls of protest this week over his Railtrack severance package. Fellow board members are afraid the bad publicity may damage Woolworths' reputation.
