Floods in July and August caused £1.26bn of damage in Bangladesh and have left the country in danger of missing government economic growth targets for this fiscal year, according to the country's two key aid donors.

The Swedish government said it would close a second reactor near its border with Denmark, as part of a plan to phase out nuclear power. The 600MW Barseback 2 reactor will close in 2005, following the closure of its sister reactor in 1999.
