Welcome messages

Andrew Palmer President of the Pipeline Industries Guild

On behalf of the Pipeline Industries Guild, welcome to Pipelines 2000.

Pipelines 2000 is the result of a partnership between the Pipeline Industries Guild and Interbuild, and it is my pleasure to welcome each of you to the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, for this, our second Pipelines exhibition.

For Pipelines 2000 we have built on the experience of Pipelines 98 to produce a bigger and better exhibition for anyone and everyone in the offshore and onshore business of pipes, pipelines and associated services. It is a wonderful opportunity to bring together clients, consultants, contractors and suppliers to a dedicated and focused major exhibition.

All companies within the industry are working in an extremely competitive environment and the Guild has promoted Pipelines 2000 as the level playing field, where each company can exhibit its expertise on an equal basis. All sectors of our industry are market leaders in their respective aspects of pipeline technology and Pipelines 2000 provides the perfect forum for displaying this technology and encouraging the cross-fertilisation of ideas to assist in the development of best practice. We believe that each sector has something to learn from the others and we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity from your visit to the show.

We have structured Pipelines 2000 to provide a different focus on each day of the exhibition. The seminars to be run in conjunction with the exhibition have a different theme each day and we are delighted to have attracted so many interesting and informative presentations.

The Pipeline Industries Guild is also using the exhibition to focus on many of its new and exciting initiatives. We will be launching our new publication Pipeline World; we will be holding a Youth Initiative to encourage greater participation from young engineers; and for the first time the Guild will hold its AGM outside London at the NEC during Pipelines 2000.

Finally, I thank you as a visitor for making the time to visit Pipelines 2000. I hope we meet your needs and expectations, and that your visit proves to be worthwhile.
