AMERICAN CONSTRUCTION management specialist Bechtel has launched a new infrastructure-dedicated internet portal with the backing of International Finance Corporation, part of the World Bank.
Called InfrastructureWorld, it claims to differ from other portals by focusing solely on heavy construction.
Services include consulting on project feasibility, finance, design, bidding, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance, said chief executive Cordell Hull.
The enterprise has already signed deals with municipal authorities in Kobe, Japan, energy group Enron and a major European bank.
Hull said the new business was currently investing nearly £1M a month in developing new business capability.
It aims to break even in 2002 with an annual turnover of £25M. InfrastructureWorld is looking to grow through acquisition and has already started to sound out possible purchases.
