Water regulator Ian Byatt has referred the price limits set last November for Mid Kent Water and Sutton & East Surrey Water to the Competition Commission following requests from firms that the levels be reviewed. A decision is expected within six months.

Provisional figures presented to MPs by Environment Minister Michael Meacher last week showed there were 48 employees, 18 self-employed personnel and four members of the public killed during construction activities in 1998/99.

Thorburn Colquhoun has been appointed to manage the design and construction of the £30M dualling of the A6 Clapham Village bypass in Bedfordshire. Construction is expected to start in summer 2001.

Transport consultant JMP has been commissioned by West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive Centro to map the position of 16,000 bus stops in the West Midlands as part of a project to improve public transport information.
