WATCHING THE WASTE LINE

Steep walled lining systems enable waste depositories to be constructed economically in former quarries. Different options are discussed in this month's paper on page 32. The photograph shows a revetment framework type sidewall under construction with landfilling ongoing at same time. The implication for landfill operators, says lead author Eugene Gallagher ofEdge Consultants, is that sidewall construction can be paid for from revenue income rather than as up front cap ita l expenditure.
