Watch out for foreign 'help'

Your leader on the state of Zimbabwe's roads indeed highlights mismanagement and neglect (NCE last week). During my regular holidays there before my relatives were obliged to leave four years ago, I travelled widely by car and, yes, found a good few holes.

The continued decline of the country has been ignored by the world mostly because it is deemed racist to intervene in Zimbabwe's affairs. How strange that it's out-and-out racism that is stealing farms and businesses from those second and third generation Zimbabweans who just happen to be white.

A massive donation of World Bank "recovery package" money will most likely end up paying Chinese engineers. My experience of Chinese contracting in Baghdad was for them to import all labour, plant and materials from home, so locals lose out on training and experience.

The Bank should be very careful how they assist Tsvangirai's wonderful country.
