Waste PFI credit process streamlined by Government

Local Authorities seeking waste PFI credits will all have to apply at the same time under new plans introduced by the Government today
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) released a statement that read: 'The previous Waste PFI system allowed local authorities to apply for credits at any time of the year. This made assessment of the relative contribution of each case to the overall PFI programme more difficult. It also hindered the development of a programme level pipeline management strategy.'The new streamlined process for applying to Defra for waste PFI credits will see prioritisation focus on a number of criteria including scale, deliverability, readiness and environmental objectives.Another key change includes the requirement for local authorities to complete a new Planning Health checklist as part of their submission.
